Welcome to HWS!

Congratulations on your decision to attend HWS. As you prepare for orientation, we wanted to let you know about a unique opportunity at the Colleges this summer.

ESSYI is a college-level, academic enrichment, credit-bearing, interdisciplinary summer course in Environmental Studies. This year it is being facilitated remotely. The course will introduce you to a variety of environmental issues and perspectives on how science, the social sciences, the humanities, and creative problem solving can be used to address environmental issues and problems. By taking this course, you will experience the teaching of 20 different faculty from 10 different departments and programs. As a result, you will have a better idea of what courses you might want to take on campus. In addition, you will connect with faculty, students and staff in ways that will be invaluable. Most importantly, all of our students come away from ESSYI with a much better understanding about what they might want to pursue in terms of a major or future career.

Please note that the credit received from ESSYI will count towards the 32-credit requirement for graduation and is also approved as an elective in Environmental Studies.
