Hobart and William Smith Colleges are private, coordinate, liberal arts institutions that share a 320-acre campus in Geneva, New York. Hobart College, founded in 1822, enrolls approximately 980 men; William Smith College, founded in 1908, enrolls about 1250 women.
Use this link to access the HWS Student Viewbook, which is an online booklet that highlights the experience of students and faculty on campus.
Classes are coeducational and the faculty and campus facilities serve both Colleges. Their unique coordinate system enables each school to retain its own identity, and creates an environment in which men and women learn to respect each other as equals and to gain insight into the thoughts, ambitions, and societal pressures that shape their distinctive experiences as men and women.
The curriculum at HWS is interdisciplinary, combining in-depth work in a major with the breadth acquired by distribution requirements and a general-education program. Majors are offered in 24 departments and 18 interdisciplinary programs, and in individualized courses of study. Throughout the curriculum, students are encouraged to understand the relationships between academic disciplines.
